Normal Equine Plasma:
essential
elements
for sustaining life
The
equine veterinary industry has used normal equine plasma (NEP) products
for problems associated with the needs of replacing specific losses or
deficiencies from the bloodstream. The plasma fraction contains immunoglobulins,
clotting factors (proteins), serum electrolytes, glucose and proteins
such as albumin capable of providing oncotic pressure gradients (Byars,
Divers). The macro components of plasma are 55% albumin, 25% immunoglobulins
(80% IgG, 15% IgA), 6% fibrin (clotting factors) with the remainder made
up of other proteins and protein factors (factors XII, XI, IX, X, V, VII,
II, I, VIII).
Mg Biologics produces a line of normal equine plasma products under the
label called Immuno-Glo
NEP. The primary use of
Immuno-Glo NEP
is for hypoproteinemia in cases of colic or acute abdominal disease post
operatively where protein has been lost from the intravascular space because
a decrease of oncotic pressure. The intravascular oncotic pressure is
maintained,
principally by albumin (which is responsible for 75% of the oncotic pressure
of the plasma) with contributions from globulin and fibrinogen (Holcombe).
The NEP is an excellent source of albumin and clotting factors.
Mg Biologics maintains a quarantined herd of donors that have been tested
for antibodies against Aa, Ca and Qa red cell antibodies. All Immuno-Glo
NEP is produced with state
of the art equipment, experienced technicians and processes to preclude
potential contamination. All Immuno-Glo
NEP is intended for IV use
in equine of all ages.
Mg Biologics seeks to offer the industry what they want in their IV products:
fast thawing time (5-10 minutes) and fast administration time (average
time of 7 minutes per liter on 100 foals at our farm).
The time of administration is related to the quality of the production process, not "plasma" in general. Mg Biologics also provides a thinner plasma bag. This is unique in the industry and reduces thaw time to only 10 minutes. Now veterinarians can take plasma from the freezer and be finished with the dosing in less than 20 minutes!
